Working in Customer Success, we hear the same terms all the time: ARR, Churn, MRR, Retention, SaaS, etc. — Japman Bajaj (@Japman_Bajaj) December 22, 2009. — MaRS (@MaRSDD) August 5, 2009. — Parature (@Parature) October 27, 2009. — Michael Hyatt (@MichaelHyatt) January 7, 2009. ClientSuccess.
I started in HubSpot in 2009 and I’m now coming up on my 7-year anniversary. This was back before SaaS companies were given that acronym -- they were called ASPs (Application Service Providers) back in the early 2000s. That’s made up of 2 things: The customers you upsell, and the customers you lose.
We have recently seen marketing departments in SaaS companies concentrating more on marketing programs to engage existing customers. On the other hand, customer success has been around since early 2009. This can be in terms of the customer experience, how far they are on the customer journey timeline and upselling course.
